In the days since my last blog, there has been a lot revealed to me about what it looks like to do life with God. I had met with a pastor at my church to discuss a lot of anxieties and worries about the whole journey that I was about to embark on. I had spent so much time worrying about what seemed like every possible thing that could go wrong while I was away. The fear was real. I was sad about missing out on the big things that would be celebrated while I would be gone and had a great case of FOMO or fear of missing out. But I was looking at it all wrong. My pastor advised me to look at this great opportunity as a JOMO, or Joy of missing out! The fact that I will miss out on these celebrations to serve God and to grow His kingdom is easily a joy that I will get to experience.

While talking with my pastor, he also spoke to another aspect I was dealing with, the path God had for me. I was worried about life on the Race and where God was going to take me afterward. He mentioned Psalm 119:105, ‘Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.’ I always liked this verse as sort of a feel-good verse growing up, but he helped me see it in a different perspective. Doing life with God isn’t a sprint but more of a day-to-day walk. Our journey with Him goes in the darkness that surrounds us in the world. It is you and Him together going through the path of life with one small lamp. You can’t see too far into the future of the path you’re on, instead, you have to focus on where He has your feet right now. I was looking for a “headlight” type of path with the Lord, where he gives me the green light and I can coast for a little while without his guidance. I have now realized that it is quite the opposite. It is a constant seeking of His way before my own ways. Not just every week, but every day.

I think the World Race is the next destination for me in life, but the Lord has told me to seek Him daily for the “smaller” rest stops along the way. He is making it known that He can use me each day, but only if I allow Him to daily work in me first. So, I am going to take each step with prayer and listen to where He wants to use me, knowing that He won’t give me too much to handle.

So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:34
