‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ‘
Matthew 28:18-20
As my time in Georgia comes to an end this December, I have some exciting news to share with you. In January, I will be going back on the mission field to squad lead a group of world racers! A lot of prayer and wrestling happened almost on the daily leading up to this decision, but it is now official. The squad will be going to be on the field for 6 months, and come January, we will be launching to Granada, Nicaragua!
When I came home from the World Race in March because of Covid, I felt conflicted. I had just encountered people, in places around the world, that had never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. There were nights where I would lay awake wide-eyed in my bed longing to just have one more conversation, one more minute, to sit with the people who hadn’t heard the good news. I felt trapped and I felt like I couldn’t do anything for them, and my heart was longing to go back overseas into their communities. While desiring to be where I had left, I was fired up and ready to see change for the American church as well. During quarantine, I dreamt and prayed of revival happening here and getting to encourage those who had grown complacent in their walk, like I had prior to my race. My heart wanted to bring truth and love to fight this “American Gospel” of comfort and prosperity that we believe and see practiced in churches.
“Earthly goods are given to be used, not to be collected. In the wilderness God gave Israel the manna every day, and they had no need to worry about food and drink. Indeed, if they kept any of the manna over until the next day, it went bad. In the same way, the disciple must receive his portion from God every day. If he stores it up as a permanent possession, he spoils not only the gift, but himself as well, for he sets his heart on accumulated wealth, and makes it a barrier between himself and God. Where our treasure is, there is our trust, our security, our consolation and our God. Hoarding is idolatry.” –Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship
I wrestled with God and I asked him where he wanted me and He gave me an image of a broken vase.
The Holy Spirit said, “I am faithful to repair what my children bring to me, so trust me and let them come.”
To me, this meant that those who have heard a “broken gospel” can draw near to the heart of God and read His word, and the truth of the Gospel will be revealed! I get to lead World Racers into more of the identity in which they are called by the Father, while telling people about Jesus who may never have heard of His love! The best of both worlds if you ask me.
Jesus calls us to go make disciples of ALL nations, and I have encountered people who have never heard the name JESUS! Y’all, pray for me because this isn’t just another “mission trip” I am going on, this is the lifestyle we are all called to.
“Go therefore…” again, and again, and again, until everyone knows the beautiful news of Jesus is for them!
I’ll keep posting here, but if you would like to hear more details about this journey, feel free to reach out!
