The Lord has whispered to me, each day for the past two weeks, a tender but loaded question, “Have you thought of Heaven today, son?”
When we recite the Lord’s prayer we come across the line, ‘Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.’ It is a beautifully crafted prayer that Jesus taught those who follow Him to pray. How often do we float those words up to the Lord without our hearts being aligned with the posture the Lord asks of us when we pray it? If we were to actually be fascinated with the reality of Heaven, don’t you think our lives would look abundantly different? On earth as is in Heaven shouldn’t be just a sentence we utter half-heartedly to the sky, but a genuine posture of our hearts before our Father who dwells both in Heaven, and inside us! Imagine if each day, when we meet with the Lord, we ask our Father to show us a glimpse of Heaven.
Our earthly walk can offer a reflection of Heaven to those who don’t yet believe. Our posture here below should model that of our worship before the throne of Jesus! Heaven isn’t some afterthought for those who believe, but a promise for those who are saved by the blood of our Savior. Heaven, our eternal dwelling place. Imagine us in complete communion with our Creator, worshipping Him face to face, wrapped up in His loving arms. I can truly only imagine what that moment will be like, but until that day comes, let us marvel at the thought of being in complete company with our sweet Jesus. Allow space for the Spirit to reveal Heaven all around us. Think of Heaven today, and let that fuel how you pursue the lost and wandering, those who don’t yet know their precious gift of salvation. Again, your name is written in Heaven, now go and show others that theirs can be too. The more familiar we are with Heaven, the better we will be at bringing Heaven here below!
Matthew 6:5-13
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. “
wow! this is a beautiful picture and a powerful challenge!
