Recently, there have been so many times, in the midst of my day, where I just pause and ask myself, “How did I get here?“. These moments often leave me in total disbelief and immense gratitude after quickly reflecting on these past few months and years. Amidst unscripted circumstances, we can easily forget the goodness of God and how He has moved in our lives. When our situations seem uncertain or life is unsteady, look back at the character of our Father and His history.
This past week I read from the book of Joshua. The Lord had delivered Israel into the promise land after Moses’ death. In chapter four, there Lord calls Joshua to stack stones so the following generations would remember how the Lord moved!
“The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.” Joshua 4:19-24
When it comes to the stones we can stack in our lives, the blessings are countless! I love how the Lord called Joshua to go to twelve others to activate them in the action. It would’ve been much harder for Joshua to just have stacked twelve stones by himself, brushed the dirt off, and continued on his way. But in the times when remembering the Lord’s goodness doesn’t come naturally, it helps to gather those around you and reflect on the ways the Lord has moved in your lives! Stack the stones together and remember the Lord.
‘therefore thus says the Lord God , “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ ‘ Isaiah 28:16
There are twelve Hebrew names of God I came across recently, and I love how the Lord says He is our cornerstone. We need Him to be our foundation, that won’t shift, won’t waiver, but will remain when stones are stacked upon it! Reflect on these titles of God and remember when He proved that He is who He says He is.
Good stuff, Drew!
I love you Drew! So proud of you!!!
