Heaven gained my favorite man on Tuesday.
Grandpa-
I am blessed to have gotten to watch you over the years. To be close enough to take note of the way you lived your life. The way that you loved grandma. The way asking, “How’s your car running?” was your way of saying I love you. The way you made people feel seen. The way you offered such great wisdom in so few words. The way you desired to hear others. The way you valued family over possessions. The way you went the extra mile in all you did. You carried such a joy that so many people were drawn to. The wittiness and sense of humor you had until your last day is something i’ll carry on for you. You are the reason why I love Purdue sports. Why I drink my coffee black. Why I love classic cars. And why I want a big family. Thank you for coming to all my baseball games. Thank you for supporting me when I decided to go into missions. Thank you letting me borrow your clothes. Thank you for letting me stay with you and grandma when I am in Indiana. Thank you for taking me out to brunch with you on a whim. Thank you for sharing your stories. Thank you for showing me that photo of your first car, over and over. Thank you for your service. And thank you for showing me the heart and ways of Jesus by how you lived.
It was hard walking into the house yesterday and not seeing you in your chair, but I made us some coffee. Purdue plays Indiana tonight, and I have your sweatshirt on. It should be a pretty good game.
Grandma told me this morning about how you loved to dance and do a jig around the house, and I have no doubt that you are doing it now before the Lord. I can’t wait to see you again. Until then; i’ll make sure to change my oil, drink my coffee black, cheer on the Boilers, listen intently, love sacrificially, and learn how to carry humility like you did so well.
I miss you ton already, Grandpa.
Love, Drew.
Very well said… He was a man of few words but you knew he was there.
A man of few words but with a sense of humor that would catch you off guard.
A man of few words but you could feel his faith. We will all miss him.
What a loving tribute, Drew. I did not know him well, but I knew a lot about him. I knew that he was a very special man and loved his family dearly. I knew he was a good role model to many. Thank you for sharing this! Louis and I are lifting all of you in prayer for peace and comfort. ??
